Awesome trail hike. Took about 5 and a bit hours in total, starting from the Jarrahdale (cemetery) side, and skipping the bit near the end of the Serpentine side lol.
Beware that some parts of the trail are really narrow (single file) and can become muddy and slippery depending on the time of year, felt like I could have potentially twisted my ankle a couple of times on uneven ground.
For the most part it was a fairly well marked trail although some areas had to ask someone for directions. No toilets on the Jarrahdale side. Note: this a return trail, no loop
This was a great walk! It was a 15km round trip and I personally recommend starting at the dam end. Why, you ask??
Well.
1. There are toilets and a nice picnic area with grass, BBQ's and kangaroos.
2. You can start and end at the dam (so nice to swim in!)
3. Yes, you are going uphill 7.5km to the serpentine cemetery carpark where you turn around...but then you are going down hill 7.5km to end!! (Speaking from experience of doing the downhill first...definitely the wrong way!)
The only consideration is that you need to have a national parks pass to park at the dam end. π₯ TIP...you can get a discounted one if you are with RAC!
The trail is narrow and is very varied as it goes through pine forest, bush scrub, along creeks, rocks, gravel, fields etc. It is certainly not a boring track! Even in late November, there were some good flowers and greenery around. A lot of the track is in shade which is nice.
I loved swimming at the dam. Very refreshing!
The only negativeβοΈwas that the track needs a prune back!! I like a narrow trail for sure and getting into nature, but I don't enjoy getting scratched by thorny bushes and attacked by sticks. Coming into snake π season, it is also a safety concern to not be able to see where you are putting your feet!
Nice, shaded, single track walk. Most parts suitable for a trail run
Really nice hike to start at the top near the cemetary. Some sections are inexplicably very difficult, poorly signposted and overgrown compared to the rest of the trail, but not a big deal. Lots of water flowing, and places to get in the water and cool off. I did not go in the water near the first waterfall at the top but talked to another hiker who said she did so its probably safe enough. From Jarrahdale to serpentine falls, up to Baldwons bluff, and back to Jarrahdale is about 20km, a good solid 6hr hike.
Beautiful level 4 trail π I really enjoyed the hike, took us 2 hrs 25 mins to hike 7.25 kms and yes we only hiked one way as we got there too late, my 6 yr old powered through like a champ! We parked one car at the cemetery then drove to the entrance. Definitely one of my favourite hikes so far π β¦
Long hike through the forest with bendy ragged paths. You will walk past waterfalls and streams. Some swimming areas in the summer time.Kangaroos in places....this hike is great for peace and quiet to get away from all the muppets on the roads.Make sure you start at the cemetery entrance early and bring water. πππ β¦
Great trail. We did the 1.5km loop which was perfect. Lots to look at on the way - we went on a wet weather day. Recommend not wearing your good sneakers as a few spots were quite muddy. Overall very easy trail with some steep bits. Quiet enough, we passed 4 other families/couples/walkers during our 1hour there.
Rated this trail 5 stars for sure! Hidden gem!
A class 4 walk trail that include rough ground and some steep sections. These tracks are suggested for people with experience bush walking, mostly uneven surfaces.
At the begging of the track, bump into a 10m height of acacia tree (golden wattle)!
A delight to walk β lush forest, wildflowers and sitting on the granite rock (next to the falls) for a coffee break!
Parked next to the Jarrahdale cemetery. A 3.5km walk to waterfalls and back on same track to carpark, instead of heading to serpentine falls.
